Things like this are why we love the Internet. Recently many folks online have pointed out similarities between AMC’s The Walking Dead and beloved 90s classic, Toy Story. My personal favorite is the undeniable resemblance between Lotso the a-hole bear, and The Governor. Check out this video below, which is only about 42 seconds minus the credits, but still so, so very fantastic.

#119 Doug Funnie And Mr. Simmons Are Basically The Same Dude

For those foggy on Mr. Simmons, let’s jog your memory and get you up to speed.
He was a teacher on Hey Arnold and, as the picture makes evident, he was essentially an adult version of Doug Funnie. Does anybody remember this moment shown below? It features Simmons nearly dropping an F-Bomb which we probably didn’t even think twice about as kids:

Donning those classic green sweater vests with a white shirt underneath — these two resemble a father and son coordinating outfits for the family portrait. It makes one wonder, was this intentional or were the cartoonists at Nickelodeon simply lazy about drawing out new wardrobes? Whatever the case may be, it’s hard to see one without thinking of the other in the back of your mind, because the resemblance is fu…fudging uncanny.

Cory & Topanga Are Back In Girl Meets World!

Before watching all of these romantic comedies or being consumed by Bella and Edward of Twilight fame, we had one fiction relationship that we rooted for and emotionally invested in as if we were a part of it. Cory and Topanga, the couple developed over 7 seasons of Boy Meets World,is the definition of romance in the eyes of 90s kids and Disney lovers across the globe. They are returning, fulfilling one of my top three prayers of returns from that decade (still have fingers crossed for Legends of the Hidden Temple and Supermarket Sweep revivals).

Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage officially signed on to the series, which will be called Girl Meets World. It’ll cover the married couple parenting their 13-year-old daughter. This is good news. No, this is great news. I know there are many skeptics who are treating this comeback like a fragile, old collectors item that they don’t want anyone to touch because they fear it’ll get damaged. I understand that, really I do – but this is CORY AND TOPANGA we’re talking about here, I’m not seeing anyway that it’s not, at the very least, better than the other junk being aired on Disney.

The only legitimate downside of this is that it magnifies our rapid aging. Copanga (admit it, you love that) being old enough to have a teenage daughter means we’ve come a long way from watching Boy Meets World on ABC’s TGIF back in ’95. Let’s embrace this. Sure it could be bad but so what? If it’s the worst thing ever, we can just pretend it didn’t happen… Like the new Figure It Out on Nickelodeon. Folks don’t even acknowledge that mess’ existence.

Be happy! Are you happy? This feels like when you have potential career news you’re excited to tell your Mom about and you hope that she’s ecstatic, but you know there’s a chance she’ll be like, “Meh, that sounds like a scam but I guess if you want to do that with your life…” – crushing every ounce of joy and excitement you had in a matter of seconds. Don’t do that to me – be as excited as I am. Let’s rekindle our crush on Topanga and hope that Feeny (Feeee-he-he-heenay) returns for a cameo or ten.

Matilda is a classic book and film from the 1990s that entertained – but also disturbed us. The specific character responsible for our discomfort was the physically intimidating, demented, aggressive Miss Trunchbull. This woman, who resembled anything but one, did a number of things that are typically prohibited in schools. Let’s take a look at some of her disturbing deeds.

Shoving Kids In The Chokey: My deepest fear for a good portion of my childhood, was being forcefully placed in a Chokey-esque room. With its snug dimensions, and nails & glass shards sticking out of the walls, The Chokey takes the cake for teacher-student brutality… Speaking of cake, let’s move on to her next action.

Making Bruce Bogtrotter Eat A Massive Chocolate Cake: Chocolate cake, from a filthy, revolting looking old lunch lady whose sweat and blood went into it is not appetizing. We wouldn’t eat a slice of this thing, much less the entire confection. To top it all off, after Bruce endured this chocolate-y torture, she smashed the glass plate over my man’s dome. Never has eating such a delicious treat looked so unappealing.

Throwing A Girl By Her Pigtails: Poor Amanda Thripp. The Trunchbull called this young lady’s mother a “twit,” then threw her long distance by her little blond pigtails.

These are just a few of her habitually inhuman acts. Not to mention the fact that in all likelihood, she murdered Miss Honey’s freaking dad, before taking his home… And his chocolates. Those precious chocolates always made my sweet tooth tingle. So much so that I always got aggravated at Matilda for only taking two pieces, instead of the whole box!

Budnick: A fiery, attitude having red-head from Salute Your Shorts.
Roger Klotz: Doug Funnie’s arch nemesis, and an obnoxious bully from Doug.
Chuckie Finster: A scared of everything, constantly confronting his fears, brave-chicken sh-t (oxymoron, but true) from Rugrats.
Pepper Ann: Cool, twelve, and the star of a series revolving around herself, titled Pepper Ann.
Ferguson: The red-headed, annoying younger brother on Clarissa Explains It All.
Chucky: The most terrifying doll ever. Star of the classic horror series called Chucky.
Ham Porter: More than just the token ginger in The Sandlot. Also, he delivered the classic line, “You’re killin’ me smalls!”
Pete: On the series Pete & Pete he provided us with plenty of laughs during his adventures with his brother, Pete.

#117 SuperMarket Sweep Made Shopping Look Like A Blast.

As a child, I loved going to the grocery store — and I think this game show was the cause of that. Even today, I don’t hate shopping – it just isn’t as fast paced and fun as I’d anticipated. On the 90s Lifetime version of SuperMarket Sweep, there were a variety of question games that entertained us momentarily – but they knew what we really wanted. The “Big Sweep” was so exhilarating to watch, I can’t even imagine partaking in such festivities. Basically, the teams would run through the store, filling their carts with whatever they could get their hands on. The goal was to compile the highest grand total, which decided the winners.
The concept of sprinting up and down isles, snatching an abundance of various products from the shelves, and being rewarded for it is just awesome. Unfortunately in real-life, it’s a whole lot different. You stroll around, searching for items that seem like they’re hidden. People walk slowly; block the aisles carelessly with their cart, and the entire shopping experience drags out, unpleasantly. Then, to top it all off, you have to pay for it all. Big time bummer.

#116 Rescue 911 & Unsolved Mysteries Made Us Paranoid.

There were the unrealistic fears that 90s kids got from reading Goosebumps & watching Are You Afraid of The Dark; then there were real-life terrors. Nothing provided more genuine paranoia than Rescue 911 and Unsolved Mysteries. Hosted by the great, William Shatner, Rescue 911 featured reenacted stories (on rare occasions, real footage), covering things from child accidents, to drug overdoses, to my personal favorite – home invasions. I was always fearful of this and I believe it’s a direct result of the sh-t I saw on that show. If you want to reminisce on how intense it was, just take a look at the intro below.

Unsolved Mysteries often came on directly after Rescue 911 and it provided no relief on our already stressed minds. This was even scarier because it covered other types of things, such as UFOs, ghosts, conspiracy theories, kidnappings and other stuff that led to restless nights. I don’t know why, but these two series’ really made me channel my inner Chuckie Finster. Seriously, I all but turned into a ginger with glasses.
