#113 Before Tosh.0, It Was America’s Funniest Home Videos.

Shockingly there was life before the Youtube era and viral video phenomenon. So, when you see a show like Tosh.0 that completely revolves around popular/wide spread videos, it’s important that you realize it’s not a completely original concept. See, back in the 90s we had a little something called America’s Funniest Home Videos. We didn’t have internet access so the clips shown on this series were sent in by folks via mail (what an outdated method of communication, right?) on tapes. Instead of Daniel Tosh, our host was the magnificent Bob Saget (Full House) and the humor was less adult oriented, gearing itself more toward families. While we were restricted to PG material, there was a hefty supply of slapstick humor through accidents and mishaps involving kids and pets. Countless times we saw the guaranteed to get a laugh clips of shots to the crotch or slipping/tripping clumsiness. While Bob Saget didn’t spend a ton of time evaluating each clip or doing anything like “Web Redemptions” as Mr. Tosh does, it was the 90s kid’s version of a video clip television show. Now that we’re adults, it’s great to enjoy the humor provided by Tosh.0 via clips from Youtube, but make sure you don’t forget your roots, and the fact that before Daniel Tosh, Bob Saget presented you with laughs at other people’s expense!

Which do you like better. America’s Funniest Home Videos as a kid OR TOSH.0 as an adult? Leave your answers in the COMMENT section!

  1. The thing that gets me is that if Bob Saget still hosted this, he would probably say a lot worse than Tosh

  2. TOSH.0 definately. On America’s Funniest Home Videos and it’s equally banal spinoff America’s Funniest people it was always the clips involving babies or stupid little kids doing stupid crap that won instead of actual funny stuff. It’s like the whole audience was a bunch of grandmas trucked in from Branson, Missouri where Yakov Smirnov is the pinnacle of comedy.

  3. HOORAY a new post! 🙂 I like AFHV better. As you pointed out, it’s just what I grew up on, and my family and I would sit around the TV, sing the theme song together, and have some great laughs at all the videos, trying to think of ones we could send in ourselves to win money. Now that it has become AFV, it’s not as great, despite it being the same thing. But, I’d take AFHV over Tosh.0 anyday!

  4. Tosh!

  5. AFV!!! I like Tosh and all, but I liked AFV as a kid much more than I do Tosh as an adult… plus, we dont NEED Tosh to see funny videos because of the internet… however we needed Sagget to watch funny videos.

  6. eh, Tosh is crap, its all recycled youtube videos that arent even that great, and Tosh himself is a repulsive individual, yup, ill go so far as to say that bob sagat has more class than Tosh, yup, bob sagat

  7. Since I prefer Bob Saget over Tosh I’m going to choose AMHF over Tosh.0. As a person Tosh is just not a really cool guy but Saget seems to be a cool dude on and off air.

  8. i still watch America’s Funniest Home Videos

  9. Uh, I feel a little guilty admitting this as a 90’s kid, but I definitely prefer Tosh.0. I thank America’s Funniest Home videos for the memories, but Tosh.0 is one of the rare cases where the newer one is better.

  10. whoa whoa wait… the guy who hosted AFHV was from Full House? -gonk= I’ve probably watched more episodes with the later hosts which would explain my ignorance… on the other hand I never watched Full House until like the last year or so ;o
